Over 3 million pounds rescued per year; feeding 17,000 weekly
Just One More Ministry (JOMM) seeks to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ by providing regular nutritious meals for the hungry in Milwaukee. We feed the hungry efficiently by using "rescued food" -- surplus and left over food donated by manufacturers, food wholesalers, grocery stores, fairs and festivals, and catering companies. We source this food at little to no cost, and then give it away for free to our 75 partners, and also through 11 street outreach locations.
Partners are local non-profits, homeless ministries, women's shelters, city churches, and elderly and veteran's organizations -- they typically come and pick up food from our warehouse weekly. We currently have over 75 partners.
With street outreach, we load our truck weekly to drive to specific food deserts throughout the north and south side of Milwaukee -- where we hand out the food directly to the neighborhoods that need it most.
By redistributing food that would otherwise be thrown away, JOMM is able to provide a quality meal at the super-low "price" of 14 cents per pound. This means each dollar donated -- will give 7 pounds of food to the hungry.
Since as much as 30% of food in the US is thrown away, JOMM is a positive example of how this food can be saved. Each meal is packaged with a prayer by this Christian ministry, as God blesses us to be a blessing to others.
